The anthology of Ukrainian film critics of the 1920s is a new book series by Dovzhenko Center, which explores and combines the most interesting, original and influential critical articles of the 1920s about cinema.<\/span><\/p>\n

Volume 3. Cinema \/ Word<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The third volume of anthology focuses on reflections on the role of words and literature in the production, screening, and analysis of motion pictures. Paradoxically, silent cinema is inextricably linked to the word. The Ukrainianization of cinema in the 1920s was largely due to the involvement of writers in film production.\u00a0The first directors and cameramen, historians and film critics actively discussed the invention of the “language of cinema”, trying to make sense of the specifics and laws of cinema.<\/span><\/p>\n

In turn, cinematic aesthetics and movie editing have influenced literary genres and forms, including futuristic poetry and prose, graphic design, newspaper layout, and poster art.<\/span><\/p>\n
